Vince Gilligan is making the Breaking Bad movie I didn’t know I wanted. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gilligan is set to write (and possibly direct) the two-hour film. There’s not a lot of information yet but the working (possibly fake) title of the project is Greenbriar and it will “follow the escape of a kidnapped man and his quest for freedom.”
While there are no details regarding which Breaking Bad actors will be involved in the project, my money is on Aaron Paul’s Jesse Pinkman being the “kidnapped man” in question. After all, the series finale showed us Jesse escaping from the Neo-Nazis and driving off…somewhere. I would love to see where Jesse ended up—both physically and mentally—after the events of Breaking Bad. The fandom has long speculated that he made his way to freedom and a better life in Alaska. If this movie does end up being about Jesse, I would love to see that speculation confirmed.
Whatever the movie ends up being, I trust Vince Gilligan implicitly with any and all properties in the Breaking Bad universe. He is, after all, the guy who gave us Better Call Saul—a prequel series just as good (if not better) than its predecessor.
I’m sure it comes as no surprise to anyone that I, a Breaking Bad obsessive, am excited about this movie but we at 25YL want to know what you think. Do you think a Breaking Bad movie is a good idea? Who would you like to see involved in the project? Who do you think the “kidnapped man” is? Let us know in the comments or on social media!
