A modern vampire’s woes are endless (much like their lifespan): finding others like themselves, being able to get fresh blood, avoiding werewolves and…grocery shopping. Brought to you by 1/3 of the comedic brains behind The Flight of the ConchordsWhat We Do in the Shadows finally hits the small screen as a sequel of sorts to the cult comedy mockumentary on modern-day vampires.

The series follows a new house full of bickering vampires and their familiar who is in charge of tracking down food, or in this case, a troupe of unsuspecting virgin LARPers.

The show also introduces a new kind of vampire: an “energy vampire” that works hard to either bore people to tears or annoy them into a frenzy. (I’m already anxiously laughing over this bit.)

The 10-episode season was pitched and written by Jemaine Clement, who wrote, directed and starred in the original film. Taika Waititi is also back in the director’s chair, fresh off of the success of Thor: Ragnarok. The new cast of vampires include the comedic talents of Matt Berry, Natasia Demetriou, Harvey Guillén, Kayvan Novak, and Mark Proksch. The series premieres in late March on FX.

As a fan of the original film, I’m ready for more vampires that don’t sparkle and creators aren’t afraid to poke fun at a genre that’s rife with melodrama and angst. Catch the full trailer over on YouTube.
