The trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s ninth film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood gives audiences a glimpse of the film before its premiere in Cannes. Full of ’60s flashback nostalgia, the film serves as a stark reminder of what made the decade both great and devastating for the entertainment industry. Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio, no strangers to the director’s work, team up to deliver the pairing of stuntman Cliff Booth and actor Rick Dalton. All is not well though for this aging pair; the brutality of the movie business is inching closer as groundwork for a real life tragedy is set with beautiful starlet Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie).

One of the most interesting aspects of the film is the historical narrative that weaves its way through the fictional stories; more than just the tragedies that surrounded Tate, the entire world of cinema was in flux. This is a time when Hollywood was changing, not yet ready for the indie revolution or corporate takeovers and far from its “golden” age. The inclusion of Pitt’s stuntman offers one of the most intriguing prospects as he interacts with Charles Manson’s (Damon Herriman) special breed of psychotic hippies. Will Tarantino change history? It’s an intriguing possibility that will be left as a question mark for first time viewers. You can see it all unfold when the film arrives in theaters on July 26th.
