Watch the New Westworld Season 3 Trailer, Starring Aaron Paul

HBO has released a first look at Westworld Season 3, and things seem…different. In fact, until the final few seconds of the trailer below, I would have guessed this was an entirely new show. I don’t think that is necessarily a bad thing, however.

At the end of Season 2, I guessed the show would take us outside the park and into the real world. And that indeed appears to be the case.

The new season of Westworld will air sometime in 2020. Fans of Breaking Bad will be excited to see Aaron Paul appearing to have a major role. The Season 3 trailer shows Paul trying to find answers in his life, feeling like his world is something rotting to pieces but with a new coat of paint on it.

With Pink Floyd’s “Brain Damage” playing, Paul’s character is shown robbing what might be a bank and being held at gunpoint. He is lost. And he says, “I think if I’m going to get on with my life, I’m going to have to find something—someone—real” just as he runs across a very run-down Dolores. Not the most ideal person to be running into when looking for someone real.

I enjoyed Season 2 of Westworld quite a bit, but I felt the show would need to branch outside the park and start dealing with more characters who were actual human beings—and not robots. I’m hoping a reboot of sorts (I think back to the changes made between the first and second seasons of The Leftovers as a good example of what I’d like to see) can help revitalize the series and take it in new, exciting directions. The casting of Paul is a good start. I do wonder how vast the changes to the cast will be. Dolores is the only familiar face for now. The new trailer has definitely ramped up my excitement for Westworld Season 3. Now we wait.
