“Where words fail, music speaks.” — Hans Christian Andersen
Music is a part of every single person’s life. From the moment you are born, lullabies are played to soothe you. Then as you grow up, songs teach you about life, love, grief and anger. Music will take you back to a certain moment in time, and it could make your heart flutter, or maybe make you smile with reminiscence. Perhaps it will take you to a dark place best forgotten. Or it might just provoke the power in you to fight for your right (to party). Whatever the case, music is memory, and we are passionate about that here at 25YL.
We are looking for creatives that love music of many genres to write reviews and featured articles on the music they love the most.
Our Music Department recently launched, and we are now looking for the following content:
- Showcasing brand new music
- Album Reviews (with an emphasis on independent and underground artists)
- Looking back at album releases from 25 years ago
- Featured articles on records that are personal to you
- Historical events in music
- Spotlight on artists/bands
- Interviews with artists and people in the music business
In addition, we are currently creating 25YL Podcasts and YouTube content.
“One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.” — Bob Marley
Having writing experience is great, of course, but the most important thing we’re looking for is music knowledge and passion for the subject. So please don’t be deterred by a lack of experience. We know that everyone has to start somewhere.
An on-staff editor reviews everything we publish prior to publication. We use self-hosted WordPress and if you aren’t familiar, training will be given. We also use Slack as our “virtual office”, where we plan and discuss all ideas. Again, training will be provided for those that need it.
So if becoming a Music Journalist has been a dream of yours, what are you waiting for? Here’s a golden opportunity for you to set those wheels in motion and gain valuable experience. It’s time to shine!
If this role interests you, please fill out the application at this link, and we look forward to hearing from you!
