Black Widow Trailer Gets Us Hyped All Over Again

MCU fans, rejoice! As great as WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier have been, I’m really itching for a new big-screen adventure, and I know I’m not alone. We’ve all been experiencing a bit of Marvel movie withdrawal for the past year or so, but that’s about to end with the upcoming release of Black Widow.

Disney recently put out a new trailer for the film, and it has me more excited than ever to finally see Natasha Romanoff’s solo debut. It doesn’t tell us much that we don’t already know, but that’s not a bad thing. It’s always best to go into a movie knowing as little as possible, and this trailer allows us to do exactly that.

It focuses mainly on intriguing character moments and the great action we’ve come to expect from this franchise, and that’s really all we need. It lets us be confident that Black Widow is going to meet the high standards Marvel has set for itself over the past decade, so if you’re a fan of the MCU, you do not want to miss this latest installment.

But that’s not to say that this trailer ignores the plot entirely. It does hint at one new and intriguing plot point, and this could be a big one. There’s a moment when Natasha’s mother says, “We had our orders and we played our roles,” and Natasha responds, “It wasn’t real.” This brief exchange is completely devoid of any context, so we don’t truly know what these characters are talking about, but it suggests that Natasha was raised by secret agents who simply pretended to be her parents. It seems that her entire childhood was just one big lie, and if that’s true, it could make for some great emotional beats. At the very least, there’s clearly a big mystery here about Natasha’s past, so whatever it is, I’m really excited to see how it unfolds.

Black Widow is scheduled to hit theaters and Disney+ Premier Access on July 9, and after all the delays, I’m confident that it’s actually going to come out this time. The fact that Disney got their marketing gears turning again for the film bodes well for its chances of hitting its current date, so I’m optimistic that we’ll finally get to see the MCU return to the big screen in just a few short months.
