Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins Trailer Has Something for Everyone

I have to be honest with you. While I played with G.I. Joe action figures as a kid, I never knew much about them. I wasn’t into the comics, the TV shows, or the video games. They were always just toys to me, and I never really cared about the “official” story behind them. But now that I’ve seen the Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins trailer, that’s all about to change. Here’s the official plot synopsis:

Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins stars Henry Golding as Snake Eyes, a tenacious loner who is welcomed into an ancient Japanese clan called the Arashikage after saving the life of their heir apparent. Upon arrival in Japan, the Arashikage teach Snake Eyes the ways of the ninja warrior while also providing something he’s been longing for: a home. But, when secrets from his past are revealed, Snake Eyes’ honor and allegiance will be tested—even if that means losing the trust of those closest to him. Based on the iconic G.I. Joe character, Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins also stars Andrew Koji as Storm Shadow, Úrsula Corberó as Baroness, Samara Weaving as Scarlett, Haruka Abe as Akiko, Tahehiro Hira as Kenta and Iko Uwais as Hard Master.

So what could possibly draw a total noob like me to the franchise after all these years? It’s quite simple, really. Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins looks like a cool action movie, and this trailer has just about everything I could’ve asked for: hand-to-hand combat, weapons, motorcycle chases, and mysterious ninja organizations. The choreography is great and the performers look like they know what they’re doing, so I’m completely sold.

And if you’re a longtime G.I. Joe fan, this trailer has a few treats for you as well. It name-drops the villainous organization Cobra, and even though it doesn’t explicitly tell you who any of its other characters are, a quick look at the synopsis will let you know that it actually features a bunch of classic G.I. Joe characters like Storm Shadow and Scarlett.

So whatever your history with this franchise, whether you’re an old vet or you’re discovering it for the first time, you’re sure to find something to enjoy here. Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins hits theaters on July 23, and I for one can’t wait to find out if it lives up to the promise of its trailer.
