Major Changes to 25YL in 2022: A Letter From the CEO

When I created 25YL back in 2017, I thought we would be done in a year. A one year time capsule for future Twin Peaks fans to find when they inevitably discovered the show so many of us already knew and loved. A moment in time designed to celebrate a show that I loved after being gone for 25 years.

I never intended for 25YL to expand the way it did but people seemed to really respond to what we were doing and building. We started writing about TV as a whole, then Film, Music and more. We started Horror and Sports both off on 25YL before launching Horror Obsessive and Sports Obsessive. The success of those sites meant that this move had to happen.

In 2022, 25YL is shutting down and rebranding into three separate sites. There will be TV Obsessive, Film Obsessive and Music Obsessive, to go along with the already launched Horror Obsessive and Sports Obsessive. Five separate sites, each of them with the same premise: to be a place where can champion, celebrate and enjoy your obsession of choice.

This feels surreal. It feels surreal that this idea for a Twin Peaks time capsule is now big enough to where it needs to rebrand to keep growing. It feels surreal that in 2022, 25YL will cease to exist except for in the name of the parent company (25YL Media) and we will have five (5!) Obsessive sites. It’s humbling, to be honest.

So what can you expect from the Obsessive sites? More community. More content. More audio and more video. More of what you love. We called ourselves “All of Your Obsessions in One Place” for years now but our future is creating these destination locations where people who share passions and interests can come together.

Those core values you’ve come to know from 25YL—our trademark deep dive analysis with a nothing is too niche mentality will live on. The way 25YL has always championed fandoms and fan communities will live on. The 25YL spirit lives on, just on a bigger scale where we will fully embrace our Obsessive side.

This is a huge step and one that wasn’t taken lightly. It’s been worked on for well over a year. I can tell you that the whole time we were working on Horror Obsessive pre launch, I had this in mind. A major shout out here to Adam for spending hours and hours on the phone with me, reassuring me that this could work. He was right and he’s a great friend. Adam, you know who you are and I hope you’re reading this.

Which brings me to the last part. 25YL, Horror Obsessive and Sports Obsessive have succeeded so far for two reasons: supportive readers who have championed us and believed in us and people who always wanted a place to be their creative selves and joined us. With the launching of three new sites next year, now more than ever we need you. If you’re obsessive about TV, Film, Music, Horror or Sports, here’s your chance. Whether it’s writing, social media, editing, or work on the audio / video end of things, we’re looking to grow this Obsessive community of ours significantly.

Join the revolution. It might not be televised but it’s real. Look how far we’ve come so far. Next year, we take another giant step forward and we invite you to join us.

Thank you for believing in us and getting us this far. Without your support, we would be nowhere.

Much love,

Andrew Grevas
