Peacemaker Trailer Has the Action, Humor, and Heart Fans Want

One of my favorite movies of 2021 is James Gunn’s fantastic superhero romp The Suicide Squad. It seamlessly combines outrageous humor and over-the-top gore with genuine humanity and pathos, so it’s pretty much the complete package. When the credits began to roll, I immediately wanted to jump right back into Gunn’s crazy corner of the DC universe, and thankfully, that wish is becoming a reality pretty soon. A spin-off show called Peacemaker is coming next month, and we just got a new trailer to hype us up for it.

The show follows Peacemaker, John Cena’s character from The Suicide Squad, as he works for the government to achieve peace at any cost. Beyond that, we don’t know much about the show’s plot, but we don’t really need to. Peacemaker was one of the funniest members of this new iteration of Task Force X, so as long as the series has the same kind of humor and action that made Gunn’s film so great, I’m totally in.

And thankfully, this new Peacemaker trailer has everything that made us fall in love with the character the first time we met him. For starters, it has some absolutely hilarious jokes that made me literally laugh out loud when I heard them. Say what you will about John Cena’s acting ability, but you can’t deny that he has fantastic comedic chops, and it looks like they’re going to be on full display in this show.

On top of that, the trailer also has a ton of action shots that showcase some of the cool things this new hero is capable of. Sure, they’re little more than blink-and-you’ll-miss-them moments, but that’s what makes them so great. They’re just long enough to whet our appetites, but they’re not so long that they’ll spoil the fun of the actual show. They’re the best of both worlds, and I can’t wait to see more.

Last but not least, this Peacemaker trailer humanizes the character in a way that I for one did not see coming. When we first met the cold-blooded assassin, he had no qualms about hurting or even killing innocent people for the sake of a perceived greater good, but it looks like that’s no longer the case. About halfway through the trailer, we see Peacemaker refusing to kill some children, and that seems to lead to some genuine growth for the formerly unscrupulous killer. We don’t know exactly where the change will lead, but if The Suicide Squad is any indication, we can be sure that it’ll inject some legit humanity and emotion into this fun comic book story.

When we put these three elements together, we get one hell of a trailer, so I absolutely can’t wait to see the full series. Peacemaker is one of my most anticipated shows of 2022, and thankfully, it’s coming really soon. It hits HBO Max on January 13, and you can bet that I’ll be clearing my schedule that day to make time to watch it.

So what do you think of the trailer for Peacemaker? Do you agree with JP that it has action, humor, and heart? Let us know in the comments! And if you’re looking for horror trailers we’ve got you covered!
