It was February of 2017 when I picked up a copy of John Thorne’s book, “The Essential Wrapped in Plastic”. My younger son was a toddler at the time (he is now a film savant- time truly flies) and I read Mr. Thorne’s book while my son took naps. I read the book while on the floor playing toys with my son. I walked around the house with the book. My mind began racing in all of the best possible ways. I was re-falling in love with Twin Peaks but perhaps most importantly, I was remembering how much I loved deep dive analysis of pop culture that made me dream to begin with.
Reading “The Essential Wrapped in Plastic” lead to me wanting to write in a more analytical manner. Over the years, I had written reviews and columns for various outlets but I craved something different as a writer. There weren’t any opportunities for me to embrace that style of writing and also, fully nerd out over Twin Peaks returning, so I started 25YL. I had zero intentions of other writers joining me – this was going to be my passion project. But much to my surprise, hundreds of writers joined me. Really good writers. Networks and studios embraced us. We launched spin off sites that are still going strong today. In a world where clickbait was our enemy, we produced thousands of think pieces. The world had enough short form content. We wrote passion filled essays and in depth reviews, designed to make you think.
25YL was the dream as a writer. A place where quality was the only thing that mattered. Which is why walking away after 9 years was not a decision made lightly. But you know when it’s time to say goodbye. The world changed a lot over the last 9 years and the realities of being a small business are difficult ones. Although this site is closing soon, the work will live on.
The Future of 25YL Media
25YL Media, the parent company over this site, is not closing. The content on this site is being moved to new homes – some of which 25YL Media owns and some we just vouch for and support as like minded operations.
The library of Twin Peaks essays and articles that this site was built upon in 2017 and 2018, will be moving to the 25YL Media Patreon account. Our Patreon can be found here.

In Conclusion
This isn’t goodbye – this is see you somewhere else. Thanks for your support of 25YL over the years. A special thank you to everyone who ever wrote for the site and helped us produce years of phenomenal work. This has been a life changing experience for me that has reminded me to never quit dreaming. Thanks for coming along for the ride with me and the hundreds of other writers who made this place as special as it was. None of this was possible without their talent and your support.
As for me, I’m currently working on my next book. You could say that my 25YL experience inspired me. Until then, I’ll see you in the trees.
